From AI slop to Uber Eats and driverless cars – Big Tech is shaping our futures – but is it a future we want?
Behind the clever apps and shiny new time saving devices is a resource grab: of data, land, energy, and critical materials. It’s creating huge wealth for the tech bros, but at whose expense? Join our Scottish gathering in Edinburgh for some great speakers, and discussion about how we resist the monopoly power of the tech giants.
Speakers:
- Nick Dearden , Director, Global Justice Now
- Dr Samer Abdelnour , Senior Lecturer at Edinburgh University
- Dr Craig Dalzell , Head of Policy and Research, Common Weal
- Rebel Tech Alliance, alternatives to big tech
- Sarah Jaffe , reporter and writer covering labour and social movements in the U.S. (joining online)
- Rachel Revesz , journalist campaigning against hyperscale data centres in Scotland
- Ben Parker, Edinburgh councillor opposing data centre developing
No need to be a campaigner or a member to come along – all welcome!
Stop Feeding The Beast
Following on from our hugely successful workshop in London in April, we've been invited back to deliver it in Edinburgh.
Our workshop will be at 1.15pm. It will be a hybrid delivery this time - us remote, but co-presented with Craig Dalzell of Commonweal, and he will be there in the room.
Here's a picture from the London event:

The London workshop was so good because we turned off the surveillance settings in everyone's phone in the room, and installed some ethical tech alternatives. All at once, almost 100 people, together doing their bit against the big tech machine ✊🏼
Our workshops are the most sociable way to start
Be there
So if you live in Edinburgh then please book a free place and come to the event - there are lots of great speakers. Or you know someone who lives there then please share this post with them.
Want us to deliver this workshop in your area?
We can deliver this event in person or online. Contact us at info@rebeltechalliance.org
Rebel Tech Alliance is a non-profit dedicated to getting as many people off big tech products as possible. Why? Because that reduces the surveillance economy, and reducing that is good for individuals, society and democracy itself.
